I have been a fitness enthusiast and health nut since I was 15, and despite having my highest mark on my grade 12 report card being exercise science, I took business and accounting in university (which was encouraged by my parents). I got my fitness fix by joining (and then becoming the VP Finance for) Western`s Triathlon Club, danced for UWO`s Dance Force and did my own weight workouts at the gym. After completing my undergrad, I took a junior accounting job, enrolled in the CMA program (because that's what you do if you want to make the big bucks) and got my Strength & Conditioning Specialist certification and began to train part-time. I then got laid off from my accounting job at the end of last year and took it as a sign (and a happy break!) to travel, re-evaluate my purpose, pinpoint my core desired feelings (thank you, Danielle Laporte) and change careers.
Getting laid off was the catalyst that catapulted me to a place where I knew I would eventually end up: making my passion for fitness and helping people a full-time gig. I even recently decided to cease my pursuit in completing my CMA designation (sorry Mom); while it is a designation I hold in high regard and was looking forward to completing my second year in the program (shout out to my CMA boys), the requirements I need to fulfil to get those three letters behind my name, do not align with my entrepreneurial spirit nor do they light me up – alas, no dice.
Not to worry, I have found plenty of other things that light me up:
- Teaching a bootcamp with the music blasting and seeing my bootcampers laughing as they’re doing military crawls
- A client telling me she no longer has lower back pain since we started working together
- Receiving an e-mail from a bootcamper telling me how amazing the class was and that she is down 10lb since working with me;
- Getting a text from a client saying after her weeklong vacation saying she misses me and wants to train ASAP;
- Connecting with other fitness professionals who are passionate about changing lives
- Connecting and having soulful talks about present moment awareness, serving others and creating a vision of happy, impactful and meaningful life with people who want the same thing
Since starting Jenna Rose Fitness and launching Fit Boutique Bootcamp, I have learned more about myself and business than any self-help book I have read or any university business course I have taken: I shopped around to find a good fitness studio, then stalked the owner of Body + Soul Fitness to give me the time of day and secure the rental, shot the workout video, put up flyers weekly and delivered pamphlets (with my dad in March - it was freezing!!), launched my bootcamp while holding my breath, and I have been hustling ever since. My business has given me the opportunity to grow, step out of my comfort zone and put on the following hats: website creator, blogger, flyer designer, fitness video promo girl, accountant, marketing girl, mailwoman, saleswoman and most importantly, a personal trainer and fitness instructor. And I absolutely love it. And so the journey has begun, and we'll see where it takes me!
